Sunset over open hills

The short answer

Is Matt Williams still at UAVHub?

No. I left UAVHub on 25 September 2024, and I have had no involvement with the company since that day. Because I still get messages every week from people who think I'm there, I've put the facts on this page, plainly and in one place.

When did Matt Williams leave UAVHub?

I founded the business in 2014 and led it for ten years. It became the UK's first CAA approved Recognised Assessment Entity, and more than 66,500 drone pilots came through my training along the way.

The company was sold in January 2024. I stayed on with the new owners for a while afterwards, and I resigned later that year. My last day was 25 September 2024.

Didn't he sell it for a fortune?

No. This one deserves a straight answer, because I hear it a lot.

The sale price was £150,000 split between two directors, paid in shares and not cash. These figures are publicly available and were published by the buyer, a publicly listed company, in their own press release at the time.

Nobody got rich from the deal. I didn't sell for a payday, and I wouldn't have. I never wanted to leave UAVHub; we did the deal based on what the company would become next.

The full story of why I left is a longer one, and I'll be telling it properly, right here, very soon.

Is Blue Skies Drone Training part of UAVHub?

No. Blue Skies Drone Training is a brand new company, built from scratch and fully independent. It has no connection with UAVHub or its owners.

BSDT holds its own CAA approval as a Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE) in its own right.

It isn't a rebrand, a trading name, or a side project.

It's a fresh start, built on the same mission I started with in 2014: improving flight safety through education and building an ecosystem that will help the drone industry, and everyone in it, to grow.

But, I've seen a UAVHub course or page with Matt's name on it.

If you've come across anything that lists me as UAVHub's CEO, founder or an instructor there, it's out of date and not true.

I also have no access to UAVHub's systems, so I'm not able to help with UAVHub orders, courses or support queries, much as I'd like to.

The ONLY place you can get access to me now, and get up-to-date training delivered by my team and me is right here, at Blue Skies Drone Training (BSDT)!

What is Matt Williams doing now?

Now, I'm concentrating on the thing that's always made me happiest... Building things that will make a difference in the world, and helping other people to Learn, Build and Grow too.

We're building a group of aviation companies who, between them, are creating the ecosystem that will support the next stage of aviation, globally: The transition from crewed to uncrewed aviation.

The first stage of this is education and training... But the industry is going to have to have people, software and hardware that it can rely on, too.

We're on a mission to pool as much talent as possible, connect as many dots as we can, and build the layers that will enable the growth of the industry, safely.

If you'd like to find out more, or put yourself forward to be part of the mission, we're always open to hearing from people.

You can drop me a direct email with your thoughts and a CV here: matt.williams@blueskiesdronetraining.com.

In the meantime, you'll find me right here at Blue Skies Drone Training, creating the next-generation drone training infrastructure that the industry so desperately needs... For the UK initially, but with other regions and countries being added to the available options soon!

To stay up to date with everything, you can follow us on YouTube, and you can find me on LinkedIn here.

I can't wait to meet you in the community soon, but until then, fly safe & blue skies,

Matt Williams
